Busy Homecoming Week for BC Volleyball

September 20, 2022

Boyd County Volleyball 1-1 at Summerland Tri

The Lady Spartans traveled to Summerland High School on September 13th for a double triangular with both Varsity and JV competing against Creighton and host Summerland.

The Varsity squad struggled to get much going against the talented Bobcats.  Several long Bobcat scoring runs and Lady Spartans unable to hold serve, played from behind in both sets.  Boyd County lost 0-2 with scores of 11-25, 15-25.  For the Spartans, Leah Jockens had 4 kills and 1 block, Amelia Hoffman had 3 kills, 8 digs and 2 blocks, Paige Drueke had 3 kills, 10 digs and 5 set assists. The lone aces for the match were Claire Reiman and Elizabeth Bernt each with 1.

Boyd County then faced Creighton in the middle match of the night.  What started as a close back and forth match, was broke open by some good team play with Brynn Almgren behind the service line.  Eleven straight points including 1 ace and Creighton using both timeouts.  Lady Spartans were able to close out that match 25-19 and despite several comeback attempts by Creighton, wining set two 25-20.  Drueke led in kills with 6 and added a whopping 25 digs and 13 set assists.  Hoffman had 4 kills along with 2 blocks and 7 digs.  Lanie Lechtenberg recorded 15 digs from her libero position.  Almgren also recorded 7 digs and led with 14 set assists, 13 service pts and 1 ace.  Jockens earned 3 blocks.  Reiman notched 3 aces in the 2-0 win.

JV scores for the Summerland match were 12-25, 22-25 and vs Creighton 23-25, 25-23, and pulled out the match victory with a third set win 15-7.

Lady Spartans Go 1-1 at Stuart Triangular

On September 15th, Boyd County traveled to Stuart to take on the Broncos and the Gregory Gorillas.  Match one vs Gregory was an even contest, and competitive both sets.  After a 5 point run by Gregory to start it off, BC settled in, chipped away at the lead and then led the rest of the way.  Set two was much of the same.  Gregory tried to make runs several times, but plagued by serving errors, BC used that to their advantage and didn't look back in sets 2 and 3.  Boyd County took the 3-0 win, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.  Defensively, Amelia Hoffman had 22 digs followed by Lanie Lechtenberg with 21.  Leah Jockens recorded 2 blocks.  Paige Drueke and Hoffman each had 8 kills.  Serving was led by Drueke with 9 pts (2a), Lechtenberg 9 pts (2a), and Brynn Almgren 8 pts (3a).

In a very warm gym, the last match of the night was vs host a scrappy defensive Stuart team.  Lady Spartans didn't play their best ball and the Broncos would prevail with two lopsided set wins.  BC will rebound and hope to compete when they see each other again in October.  Scores were 13-25, 13-25.  Hoffman recorded 9 digs and 2 kills.  Drueke had 7 digs and 1 kill.  Jockens had 4 blocks and 1 kill.  Almgren and Lechtenberg each had 6 digs along with 1 ace each.  Elizabeth Bernt also had 1 ace along with 3 set assists.

After three full weeks of play, the varsity record moves to 4 wins -7 losses overall.
