Lady Spartans go 1-2 on the Road

The Lady Spartans traveled to Bloomfield for a triangular with Santee on Tuesday October 6th.  The Bloomfield Bee’s defeated the Lady Spartans winning 2 out of 3 sets with the scores of 23-25, 25-23, and 7-25.  Senior Lauryn Hoffman led the Spartans with 6 service points followed by Junior Haylie Carson and Daydra Zeisler who both had 5 service points.  Senior Audrey Mohr had 5 kills and Senior Lauryn Hoffman had 11 assists, setting the ball 54 times. 

The second match of the night was with Santee.  The Lady Spartans won in two sets with the scores of 25-10 and 25-13.  Junior Rylie Haun led the way with 8 service points followed by Senior Audrey Mohr and Sophomore Amelia Hoffman, both with 6 service points.  Senior Audrey Mohr had 5 kills and Junior Daydra Zeisler had 4 kills.  Senior Kiryn Kayl led in blocking with 1 block assist and 2 solo blocks.  Senior Lauryn Hoffman set 39 times for 14 assists.

On Thursday, October 8th the Lady Spartans were on the road again traveling to Tilden,NE to play the Elkhorn Valley Falcons.  The Lady Spartans were defeated after 5 sets with the scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 13-25, and 12-15.  Although the Lady Spartans did not come out with a win, they competed and were aggressive throughout the entire match.  Sophomore Amelia Hoffman led the team with 14 service points.  Also contributing to service points were Junior Rylie Haun (9 points), Senior Audrey Mohr (8 points), and Junior Haylie Carson (8 points).  Senior Lauryn Hoffman set up the Lady Spartans offense 96 times with 26 assists, while Junior Haylie Carson led the team with 11 kills.  Passing was essential to setting up that offense.  Sophomore Amelia Hoffman had 34 serve receive passes and 12 defensive digs.  Junior Haylie Carson had 24 serve receive passes and 16 defensive digs.  According to Head Coach Janet Brown, “Overall, we played very well and we were competitive. This game could have very easily gone either way.  I was very proud of how the girls played.”
