Spartan JV Volleyball vs Elkhorn Valley

On October 10th the Spartans were host to Elkhorn Valley.  The match would prove to be a close contest, with none of the 3 sets being lopsided.  Boyd County dropped the first set, but would come back and win the next two to take the match 2-1.

Set one saw the Spartans playing a few points behind most of the way.  Elkhorn Valley had several 3 point serving runs that kept BC playing catch up.  After a Spartan timeout at 18-23, an offensive push with some tough serving forced an EV timeout at 21-23.  BC would tie it up at 23-23, but EV was able to get the last two points to claim set one.  Boyd County started out strong in set two taking an early lead with a score of 15-10 at midpoint.  EV kept fighting, forcing a Spartan timeout at 19-15.  Several good rallies would follow between the two squads.  At 23-22 it was anyone's set.  BC fought for the last two points and won 25-22.  The deciding third set was another close battle.  Tied up 15-15, teams would continue to trade side outs with neither team taking control.  With Amelia Hoffman serving tough behind the line, BC took charge offensively and stepped up defense.  EV called a timeout at 21-18, but Amelia's 7th serve in a row, including two aces kept momentum in our favor and Spartans would prevail, 25-18.   Defensively on the night, Riley Haun had 9 digs, Bentley Adams and Jenny Goesch each added 4.  Leah Jockens and Amelia Hoffman were each credited with one kill block.   Riley led the way in set assists with 11 and Haylie Carson chipped in 3.  Many of the hitters again recorded kills for the match: Amelia 10, Kiryn Kayl 5, Haylie 3, Gina McCarthy 3, Leah 2, Rylie 2, Bentley 2, with Jenny and Nevaeh Jockens each adding 1.  Recording aces in the match were: Amelia 3, Kiryn 2, and each with one were Riley, Haylie, Nevaeh and Jenny.
