2026 Ainsworth Cross Country Invite

The Boyd County Cross Country team laced up their shoes for the first time this season on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 for the Ainsworth Invitational. Like many other sporting events across Nebraska, this meet was moved up to 10am from the original 4pm start time due to predicted heat. That’s not the end of the weather story. As the 10am start time approached a thunderstorm rolled through the area delaying the meet an hour.
The girls varsity 5K race finally got under way at 11am. By this time the sun was shining brightly and it was muggy but that didn’t stop the Spartans from competing hard! Senior Kaci Koenig led the Lady Spartans with her 13th place finish in a time of 25:13. Freshmen Savannah Zeisler and Trina Bennett followed placing 18th and 19th respectively with times of 27:33 and 27:39. These three ladies each earned a medal for their efforts. Senior Addi Janousek raced in for 23rd place with a time of 30:00. Freshman Corinna Reiser placed 29th overall with a time of 38:36. The girls team placed 6th in the team standings.
The boys varsity team raced next. All three varsity runners earned themselves a medal this meet! Junior Aidyn Garwood placed 7th in 19:48. Freshman Case Reiman placed 9th with a time of 20:23, and sophomore Hayden Warnke placed 15th with a 20:56 time. The Spartans placed 3rd as a team just one point behind Ainsworth.
Next up the junior high girls stepped on to the course to compete in the one mile run. 8th grader Baleigh Koenig placed 4th with a time of 7:03 earning a medal. 7th grader Raina Hammon placed 13th with a time of 7:55, and 8th grader Kyra Reiser, competing in her first cross country race, placed 19th with a time of 8:55.
The junior high boys completed the competitions of the day. 8th grader Gage Schochenmaier earned the 8th place medal with a time of 6:42. 7th grader Asher Bruggeman placed 15th with a time of 7:14.
The Spartans compete again on Thursday, September 10th at the Butte Golf Course starting at 4:30pm. The weather looks to be good for racers and spectators that day so head on down to the golf course to cheer on the Spartans! They lace up their shoes again on Monday, September 14th in Neligh.
