First XC Meet of the Season Brings Home Multiple Medals

The Boyd County Cross Country Team took to the Ainsworth Course on August 31, 2023. The day was hot and windy at the 4pm start.  The Lady Spartans finished 5th as a team.  Freshman Kaci Koenig returned home with the 17th place medal and a time of 26:10 on the 5K course.  Junior Jada Harmon came in 21st with a 27:50 time.  Addi Janousek, freshman, competed hard in her first 5K placing 24th with a 29:00 time.

The varsity boys landed four sophomore boys on the medals podium to start the season.  Will Nelson placed 5th with a 19:10 time.  He was followed closely by Ethan Zeisler in 8th with 19:47.  Brook Strom placed 12th in 20:18 and Issac Jensen earned his first high school XC medal placing 15th in a 20:48 time.  Junior Grant McGill also ran a strong race placing 27th overall in 22:45.  Newcomer to the sport, freshman Adam Bernt completed well earning the 40th place in 25:10.  These gentlemen earned 3rd place as a team with 25 points.  They placed behind Class C school Ord with 16 points and Class D school Valentine who had 18 points.  They finished just ahead of West Holt who had 28 points.  

The junior high took to their one mile course after the varsity races.  7th grader Ruby Strom made her debut placing 16th with a 7:59 time.  Lance Kopecky, 8th grade, placed 20th with a time of 8:03.
