Fire Safety Week at the Lynch Elementary

October 30, 2022

Boyd County Elementary, at Lynch, had some special guests from the Lynch Volunteer Fire Department, to learn about Fire Safety Week on October 12, 2022.  A special guest appearance by Smokey Bear was the most exciting and terrifying experience for many.  Smokey Bear showed us how to “Stop, Drop, and Roll”, as well as make a safe exit out the door, by feeling the door, staying low, and crawling out.  Our bus driver, Larry Eilers, dressed up in all his fire gear and we could hardly recognize him!  Even our teachers had a race to try to put on the heavy fire equipment the fastest!  We got to watch a fire extinguisher spray outside.  Back inside, we all got a chance to feel and lift the fire equipment.  The firemen gave us all a fire safety calendar, a fire safety pencil with a fire eraser, a fire helmet, and even some candy.  We learned a lot from the firemen!  The children had great questions, and listened intently to the experts tell about fighting fire.

The Preschool and Kindergarten said their favorite part was learning from Smokey about “Stop, Drop, and Roll” and crawling out a door.  They also thought the teacher race was really fun to watch.

The first and second graders wanted to share some important things they learned from the firefighters!

  • Abbie Wendt--They get dressed in 1 or 2 minutes.
  • Jett Schurmann--Always follow the hose.
  • Coy Coburn-- Their coats are really heavy!
  • Nora Conroy--Never ever put the hose down.
  • Cooper Mahon-- The air tanks can last up to half an hour.
  • Kash Classen--Shake the fire extinguisher up & down before spraying it, and the fire truck costs $100,000.
  • Dalton Holz-- They keep the fire truck far away from the fire.
  • Hunter Epley--All the equipment is so heavy!
  • Kayn Morrow--The coats have layers in them.
  • Hazel Hagberg-- Their coats are fireproof.
  • Nathan Price--Smokey the Bear just had a costume.
  • Paxton Miller -- Larry looked really funny in the suit!

The third and fourth grade learned the Smokey Bear song and treated the firemen to it before they left.  Ask one of them about the song, they sounded great!

Boyd County Elementary at Lynch would like to give a big thank you to the Lynch Volunteer Fire Department for the wonderful, learning afternoon!

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
