Media Arts Career Day

November 23, 2021

On November 18th, Mrs. Kluckman's Media Class left in the early morning to travel to Norfolk for Northeast's Media Arts Career Day. After check in, the students gathered in the theater to be greeted by the different field professors, and were given a run down of what the day would look like. From there, the students were separated into three groups, joining students from other towns as well. The groups rotated through the Audio Recording, Broadcasting, Digital Media, and Graphic Design studios.

Anthony Beardslee, the Audio Recording instructor showed the students how they lay down music tracks. We were treated to him playing four different guitar parts and three different vocal parts. He showed them step by step how they mix all the different parts together using their software and equipment. Beardslee, a very talented individual, was a favorite among many of the students.

The Broadcasting and Digital Cinema departements and their instructors, Brian Anderson and Drew Dolezal, worked together and shot short films with each of the groups! The films looked as though we were going to be watching a very intense fighting match, which really turned out to be thumb war. Two students from the groups had to be the contestants, one student a referee, and the rest were shown as the audience cheering and placing bets. Boyd County's Leah Jockens played the part of the referee in her group!

The Graphic Design department, along with instructor Phil Schimonitz, gave the students a real hands-on experience. They were able to edit a picture using the college software, to make it look however they wanted. The students really seemed to enjoy getting to play around and letting their creativity show!

After the three sessions the Media Class was off to the college cafeteria for lunch. They lucked out, and were treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring Thanksgiving dinner! The Northeast campus really knows how to feed the students!

After lunch everybody gathered back in the theater. The instructors took turns talking more about their programs, what the offered, and what classes the students would take as part of these programs. The students then got to watch the videos they made during their breakout sessions on the big screen. They also put their graphic design projects up on the big screens so the students could all see each other's work.

The Media Arts Career Day was a great learning experience and really showed the students what Northeast had to offer through these programs. Special thanks to Trevor Wright for driving one of two vans so all the students could enjoy this great day!
