The Lady Spartans Travel to Wynot and Santee to Battle It Out

Spartans vs Wynot Blue Devils

On August 31, the Lady Spartans traveled to Wynot for a full 3 match night taking on a sound Blue Devil program. Boyd County continues to grow each time on the court finding ways to score and play good defense. 

The varsity team took Wynot to four sets, but couldn't find an answer for their senior all-state left side down the stretch and lost 20-25, 25-15, 22-25, 16-25.  The Spartans made some excellent plays and showed high energy at key times, rolling to an easy win in the second set.  All the hitters found success at the net as Boyd County has several offensive weapons.  Leading kills was Daydra Zeisler 9, Amelia Hoffman 7, Bentley Adams and Paige Drueke with 6, and Haylie Carson 5.  Rylie Haun earned 21 set assists on the night.  Behind the service line, Paige had 14 points with 2 aces and Haylie had 9 points with 1 ace.  Defensively Daydra recorded 5 blocks.  Digging was led by Haylie with 24.

Lady Spartan JV team found success on the court, gaining confidence each night out.  After dropping a close first set, the Spartans battled back with some tough serving in set two and then played tough to the end and took the third, 21-25, 25-13, 15-12.  Mercedes Brooks served a continuous 10 point stretch in set two, finishing the night with 17 total service points and 7 aces.  Leading the way with kills was Leah Jockens, Addison Birmeier, and Lanie Lechtenberg with 3 each.  Mercedes recorded 5 set assists with Brynn Almgren adding 3.  Recording blocks were Leah and Addison with 1 each.  In the backcourt bringing up digs were Mercedes, Lanie and Amelia Hakl each earning 5. 

C team action provided another competitive 3-set match.  After Boyd County came out storming in set 1, the Blue Devils rallied back for a close win; Spartans won a close contest in set 2 before losing the deciding third set by a narrow margin, 20-22, 24-22, 12-15 (note "C" sets were to 21,21,15 winning by 2).  Elizabeth Bernt served tough in each set earning 12 service points and 5 aces on the night.  Kaylee Bennet followed with 6 points and 1 ace.  Leading the way with kills was Addison and Sabrina Ziebro each recording 4.  Elizabeth finished with 4 set assists and McKenzie Snyder earned 4 blocks.

 

    Spartans / Santee / Neilgh-Oakdale Tri

On September 2nd the Lady Spartans traveled to Santee for a varsity triangular with host Santee and Neligh-Oakdale.  Boyd County faced off against Neligh-Oakdale to start the night.  Defensively N-O stayed in the set digging well and making the Spartans earn their points.  They would get within 4 points, but Boyd County kept serving and passing well and finished that set, before taking the second to win the match, 25-20, 25-17.  Service points was led by Amelia Hoffman with 13pts/2 aces and Bentley Adams 7 pts/1 ace.  Haylie Carson recorded 8 kills followed by Daydra Zeisler 5.  Rylie Haun earned 12 set assists.  Defensively the Spartans passed and dug the ball effectively which allowed many in-system attempts.  Daydra, Amelia, and Bentley Adams each notched 1 block while Haylie dug the ball 20 times followed by Amelia with 14. 

The Lady Spartans would wrap up the night against the host Santee Warriors.  Boyd County was able to keep serve for long periods and work the ball around for good shots while working to lessen unforced errors.  The Spartans controlled both sets to win the match in two, 25-8, 25-8.  Haylie earned 10 service pts/3 aces and Paige Drueke 9 pts/5 aces to lead behind the service line.  Haylie notched 6 kills with Daydra and Bentley each adding 2.  Rylie had 9 set assists.  Amelia recorded the lone block on the set and digging was led by Haylie with 12 and Paige with 9. 

The Lady Spartan Varsity squad is now 3-3 on the season.
